The Carlton Football Club Indigenous guernsey was designed by proud Tiwi artist Russellina Puruntatameri and celebrates traditional Tiwi culture through a range of symbolic elements.
The design represents the Kulama Ceremony, an important Tiwi ritual celebrating life, growth and initiation. Circular motifs across the guernsey symbolise ceremonial dancing grounds connected to health, hunting and community traditions.
Across the front of the guernsey are depictions of:
- Numwariyaka (spear) — representing strength and resilience.
- Pamajini (arm bands) — traditional woven pandanus arm bands used in Tiwi ceremonies, highlighting women’s cultural practices.
For the first time in club history, the same Indigenous guernsey was worn by both Carlton’s AFL and AFLW teams during the Sir Doug Nicholls Rounds.
The guernsey received strong praise from AFL fans online, with many describing the design as one of Carlton’s best Indigenous jumpers in recent years.
